Some of Our Dancers

OK, so you don't have to be a Celebrity to learn to dance.

But what do you have to be ?

The answer is simple - someone a bit like you, someone who wouldn't seem out of place walking down the street, having a drink in the pub or shopping in the supermarket.  Someone who wouldn't necessarily wear sequins and lycra in public, at least, not all the time.  Maybe they've never bought a bottle of fake tan in their life !

Our dancers come from all walks of life, are of all ages, and all had different reasons for wanting to take it up.  But they all now have one thing in common - they simply love dancing.

To give you a flavour, we've chosen a selective sample of our dancers and asked them for a brief summary of who they are, what they do and why they love to dance with us.

Richard and Suzy started dancing with us in January 2008

"We started dancing as my new year's resolution to learn to dance (I had been watching couples dance whilst playing in the band and wishing I could do it).  It was also an opportunity to have a hobby together and dance to the band at Richard's (40th) birthday party five months later.  Since starting in January 2008, we have become hooked, kept all our toes and managed to stay married!

We love the style of teaching and friendly atmosphere at the classes; we appreciate the fact that we can ask for help at any time and you patiently help us time and time again. We also have fun whilst always aiming to improve, and hopefully doing so.

It's also great to be able to have private lessons, practise at the social dances and look forward to the big annual dance."

Maryann and Tony started dancing with us in early 2009

"We have always enjoyed dancing especially the Quickstep. Tony had already attended classes as a teenager, (Jan Bailey and also at the Reigate Court School of Dancing) and with my classical ballet background (Royal Ballet School) dance had always been my thing.

We started at Old Newton in Feb 2009 with a wish to learn properly rather than rely on bad habits from our past. Trying to forget the bad bits was quite difficult, but with Adrian's excellent teaching and perseverance and hiring the village hall on Sunday afternoons to practice, we made it through the first year and have now moved on to the improvers class.

We look forward to Thursdays, and any Masterclasses we can make. Of course the highlight of the year is the annual dance at Bury St Edmunds - a fabulous evening not to be missed."

Whilst the above refers to two Ballroom and Latin couples, similar tales would be told by those dancing Salsa with us.
