Child Protection Policy

We take Child Protection and Children's Safety very seriously.  Our policy in this regard is shown below.

It is the policy of The Ballroom Experience Co to provide efficient, up to date, enjoyable and safe instruction in dance to all pupils who enrol in the school.  This policy covers tuition provided to all those aged under 18 who are collectively referred to hereafter as a 'child'.  The principles, insofar as they sensibly apply, are also used to underpin the provision of our tuition to this aged over 18.

The premises and equipment will be checked regularly for any defects or faults that exist which may present hazards to those attending the premises.  Appropriate action will be taken in this regard.

All instruction will be planned and carried out according to the previous experience and abilities of the children, and no child will be required to carry out moves beyond their abilities.

Instructors will be sensitive to children's religious beliefs and culture.

No energetic instruction will be given without some form of 'warm up' exercise, and after an energetic session, a 'warm down' routine will be completed.

No smoking is permitted on the premises.

A permanent record shall be kept in a form felt appropriate by The Ballroom Experience Co of any health and safety incidents.

Children will only be allowed to leave the premises when accompanied by a parent, guardian or adult otherwise authorised to do so.  A member of staff will remain on the premises until all children have departed.

No child shall be driven or otherwise taken home by an Instructor without prior written consent from that child's parent or guardian save in an emergency.

Ordinarily no member of staff will be alone with a child for any substantial period.

We expect parents/guardians or a nominated adult who bring children along to classes to remain present during those classes.  As they are present, such adult is responsible for their children's safety in all respects other than in regard to the running of the class itself - eg in supervising changing or visiting the toilet if considered necessary.

No child may be photographed or video'ed without the consent of their parent/guardian.

No instructor or support staff shall knowingly be employed who have a criminal record for child molestation or similar.  CRB checks are carried out on all our instructors and support teams who come into contact with children in running our classes.

Instructors will avoid any unnecessary physical contact with children.  However, parents/guardians should understand that some aspects of dance tuition necessarily involve some degree of contact.  Where they deem it necessary our Instructors will use the utmost discretion and, in any event, will not do so without another adult being present.

No form of bullying, harassment or discrimination on any basis will be tolerated by The Ballroom Experience Co.

At all times our Instructors will endeavour to maintain the highest standards of instruction and behaviour, and we ask for cooperation from children, parents and guardians to reflect that.  The Ballroom Experience Co reserves the right to discharge any pupil from our classes who persistently disrupts the classes, uses offensive language or otherwise engages in bullying, harassment or discrimination.
