Foxtrot Class - 23rd January
The January Foxtrot class was aimed at those who knew some but wanted to improve their dancing.
Most of the afternoon was spent working on individual technique, and no new steps were looked at. The key points that came out were as follows:-
- Make sure the upper thighs come into contact with your partner's, the partner going back resists and as a result gets moved backwards the same distance as the one going forward;
- As the ladies walk backwards release the front toe so the foot drags back on the heel;
- On a feather step, the first two steps for the man are taken outside his partner, with contra body movement. Then the shoulders straighten up and pull the third step in line with your partner. Sway towards your partner (to the right)
- On the heel turn, make sure that you don't hurry - the man has more to do than the lady and therefore needs to move faster. In particular, men need to make sure that their step around their partner is the same distance from your partner as the step before the heel turn was.
The above notes are not verbatim copies of the approved technique of the teaching societies, but are intended to be easily digestible aide memoires from the course you attended. (c) 2010 Ballroom Experience Co
