Weddings and Civil Partnerships
The expectations of the first wedding dance have moved away from a quick shuffle round the room to a full blown demonstration.
And whilst professional dancers spend their careers working towards peaking at a demonstration, you get a few hours
You want it to be perfect, we'll help you get there.
Where we assist is the following areas
The right music - often couples have a clear idea what they are looking for, if so we'll find a dance that works with it (anything is possible). If not, we'll help you choose a song.
The right dance - do you want a sexy Tango ? a male-dominant Paso Doble ? a romantic Rumba ? a classic Waltz ? We'll help you choose the dance that suits you. If you want a cabaret routine where the man looks like John Sargeant, or where he lifts his partner like Ricky Whittle does, we can help . . .
The right choreography - we'll put some steps together that work for you, taking account of footwear and dress style. For example, a long train on the dress precludes some spinning steps, and, believe us when we say that no man wearing a kilt should do a series of pirouettes, no matter how good he is at them. Want to do lifts and drops ? No problem.
Floor Area and seating layout - we will recreate the floor - there's no point learning to dance your routine on a badminton court when, on the day, you've got the size of a table tennis table. Equally the best highlight in the world is wasted if your backs are to the audience. If you're going to be dancing on sand or grass we'll help.
Other dances - wouldn't it be great to have some other dances for later in the evening - we'll sort some of these out for you as well. We've even recently seen an interest in parents learning some dances as well, so as not to be put to shame by the bride and groom.
Practice and Rehearsal - Most first dances happen after the food - and drink - have been consumed. You really want the dance to be second nature by then, we'll work with you to make sure that it is. We'll also video some of the lessons so that you have a lasting memory of the work up to the wedding.
Fun - Weddings are stressful enough (especially in the final few weeks when we're working on the dance). Our dance lessons are anything but stressful, we help you relax and enjoy.
Normally we'd say that to get from scratch to a good end product we recommend six hours of tuition, over a twelve week period (to give time for practice in between). That isn't always possible - our record is doing it in an hour for a couple who forgot to sort their dance out until the week before.
We have a policy of true inclusiveness and with this in mind are very happy to teach couples for their Civil Partnership celebrations.
We can also do group choreography where more than the couple themselves join in - these are great fun to do, and will create a talking point for years to come !
Unlike some, we don't believe in taking advantage of the 'w' word (have you noticed how everything for weddings comes at a premium). We charge for wedding tuition on an hourly basis at rates ranging from - £25 - £40 / hour depending on time and location.
We've had some amazing feedback, but the one below sums up what we can do (this couple were late-middle aged and had never danced before we got our teeth into them):-
'We had to do the Cha Cha Cha a second time as an encore . . . the hotel staff said it was the best they'd ever seen and they see at least one a week'
